Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747 quarantined at Gatwick

Virgin Atlantic reported on March 6, 2019, that all passengers and crew of a charter flight arriving in London from Barbados had been quarantined, after several people got sick.

The Boeing 747, registered G-VROS, carried out flight VS610 from Bridgetown International Airport (BGI) in Barbados, to London Gatwick Airport (LGW). The flight was exclusively transporting tourists returning from a cruise in the Caribbean, on a ship called MSC Preziosa.

Out of the 448 passengers, several on board fell ill with severe coughs, diarrhea and even rashes, according to Phill Brown, a passenger quoted by The Sun. Five crew members were also affected. Upon landing in Gatwick, the airport’s emergency services met the plane.

The quarantine lasted for about four hours.About thirty sick passengers were taken to an assessment center for further treatment, said a spokesperson from Gatwick airport.


Atlas Air Crash Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has annnouced that they have completed an initial review of the cockpit voice recorder from the Atlas Air Boeing 767-300ER Freighter that crashed southeast of Houston on 23 February. They have further stated that they will be analyzing the flight data recorded that was recovered on 3 March.

The agency says that “crew communications consistent with a loss control of the aircraft” began 18s prior to the end of the cockpit voice recording. The audio is poor during certain parts including leading up to the crash in Trinity Bay.

On 3 March, an NTSB team fished the flight data recorder out of Trinity Bay and the device arrived at the agency's lab that same day. The NTSB says it expects to issue an investigate update "in a few days", after investigators verify and validate the data.


Boeing to reveal 777-9

Boeing has announced that it will make the public debut of the 777-9 at an event at its Everett plant in Washington.

“Our very first 777X flight-test airplane will officially debut to the world on 13 March”, says Boeing, The event will be live streamed.

The 777-9, which is the larger of the two GE Aviation GE9X-powered 777X family variants, is due to enter service in 2020.
