MERS outbreak in South Korea prompts airlines to reduce flights
July 01, 2015
The recent outbreak of Middle-East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in South Korea has prompted several airlines to reduce the number of flights they operate to the region due to a sudden decrease in demand for travel. Initial figures indicate that several airlines have reduced their flights to the region by up to fifty percent. By late June 2015, the World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that out of 182 confirmed cases, a total of 32 deaths had been recorded in South Korea as a result of the MERS outbreak. The WHO and the South Korean government are continuing to implement strict quarantine measures in order to limit the spread of the virus.

FAA proposes sizable fine for Volaris
July 01, 2015
The U.S. civil aviation regulator, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), has proposed a USD$735,000 fine for Mexican-based carrier, Volaris, after the airline allegedly operated 121 flights with a non-compliant aircraft. In March 2013, The FAA had reportedly notified the airline that it’s U.S.-registered Airbus A319 aircraft had not been subjected to a required inspection regarding an emergency slide and weight and balance calculations. However, the airline reportedly failed to comply with this request and continued to operate the aircraft approximately 121 times before bringing the aircraft into compliance. The airline has 30 days to respond to the proposed fine issued by the FAA.
