Air Vanuatu board dismissed

The entire board of members of state carrier; Air Vanuatu, were reportedly dismissed at the end of August. The airline has been undergoing a period of intense restructuring since early 2016 which has resulted in the implementation of a number of cost cutting measures. The airline has also recently secured an additional government loan of USD 3.8 million. No direct reason was given for the removal of the board members.
TACV suspends ops

Cabo Verde Airlines (TACV), based in Cape Verde, announced in early September that it would temporarily suspend all flight services due to the lack of serviceable aircraft. The airline stated that its only operational aircraft, a Boeing 757, would be out of service till the 11th of September. The airline then announced it had successfully secured capacity from Portuguese ACMI and Charter operator, euroAtlantic Airways, which allowed for the resumption of services from Lisbon to Praia.
Air Berlin cancels flights

German Carrier, Air Berlin, announced further flight cancellations in mid September, stating that over 200 of its pilots had reported sick. The flight cancellations affect both its domestic and international route networks. The union representing the airline’s pilots, Vereinigung Cockpit (VC), claims that the mass pilot outage is not a collective or concerted effort and instead recommended that staff fulfil their contractual and occupational obligations. The airline had previously sustained a number of years of severe losses, which had resulted in cost cutting measures.
