Lufthansa seeking to upsize €2 billion revolver: source
February 02, 2024
Lufthansa is seeking to refinance and upsize its €2 billion ($2.17 billion) revolving credit facility. A source with knowledge of the situation says the German airline group wants to increase the volume of the facility to €2.2-2.3 billon. The Star Alliance member closed terms for the unsecured loan, its first RCF, in April 2022 with what it described as a "broad syndicate of international relationship banks". The agreement dictated that the facility would be available for three years with two one-year extension options. The source says Lufthansa is keen to extend the RCF.

Airbus recruits Scandinavian partners for hydrogen study
February 01, 2024
Airbus has partnered with SAS, Swedish energy producer Vattenfall and airport operators Swedavia and Avinor to explore the feasibility of establishing a hydrogen infrastructure at airports in Sweden and Norway. The collaboration, covering over 50 airports across both countries, aims to assess hydrogen aircraft concepts, operational requirements, supply chains, infrastructure and refuelling needs, the European airframer says. Under the memorandum of understanding, the partners plan to identify which airports will be prioritised for adoption of hydrogen-powered aircraft and work on regulatory frameworks. "Hydrogen stands out as a key enabler as we pioneer a sustainable aviation future," Airbus chief executive Guillaume Faury states. "Norway and Sweden are among the most demanding regions for aviation and have great potential for hydrogen production from renewable energy sources." The initiative "fits perfectly with our strategy of deploying hydrogen aviation ecosystems in the most suitable parts of the world", he adds. Airbus suggests hydrogen use will to not only reduce airborne emissions but also contribute to decarbonizing ground activities in air transport. The airframer unveiled its zero-emission aircraft concept in 2020 aimed at launching a hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft by 2035. Additionally, the manufacturer has launched its "Hydrogen Hub at Airports" programme for low-carbon airport operations. To date, it has signed agreements with partners and airports across France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden and the UK.
