Emirates to buy two A380s from Doric Nimrod Air Two
October 11, 2023
Doric Nimrod Air Two has agreed to sell two Airbus A380s placed with Emirates to the Dubai-based carrier. Emirates will buy the two widebodies (MSNs 077 and 090) for £28.9 million ($35.3 million) at the end of their respective leases, scheduled for 14 October and 2 December, the asset manager says in a regulatory filing. Until the relevant lease-end date, the operating leases in respect of the assets will continue as contracted between the parties, Doric Nimrod Air Two states. The fund manager purchased the two jets in October and December 2011. The directors of the fund intend to make a capital distribution to shareholders "as soon as practicably possible" following the later of the two lease-end dates, and is expecting to do so early in the first quarter of 2024.

TAAG orders four 787s
October 11, 2023
TAAG Angolan Airlines has ordered four Boeing 787s from the US airframe. Boeing notes that TAAG is a new customer for the Dreamliner. The manufacturer has not disclosed which 787 variant TAAG has ordered or when the aircraft will be delivered. Fleets data shows TAAG has five 777-300ERs, three 777-200ERs, one Airbus A330-200, six 737-700s, one 737-800 conversion freighter and six de Havilland Canada Dash 8-400 turboprops in its current fleet. It also has 15 A220-300s on order, via lessor deals with Aviation Capital Group, Air Lease, Azorra Aviation and Nordic Aviation Capital. "Our goal is to work with the best manufacturers in the world towards a multi-type fleet, in order to ensure we have the appropriate airplanes for each flight typology, namely our intercontinental connections," states TAAG chief executive Eduardo Fairen. "The 787 option suits our intent for modern, size-wise and efficient equipment, able to progressively replace our current widebody fleet, and provide our customers with an improved flight experience." Boeing predicts that air traffic in Africa will grow at 7.4% over the next 20 years – above a global average of 6.1% – and that operators in the region will need 1,025 aircraft.

Airlines cancel over a third of Israel flights
October 11, 2023
Carriers operating to and from Israel have continued to slash services as fighting continues in the country’s south and the situation elsewhere remains tense. Data shows that on 9 October airlines cancelled 180 flights out of a total of 510, amounting to 35.3%. This is up slightly from a cancellation rate of 34.9% on 8 October and 27.2% on 7 October. Wizz Air cancelled all services to the country for 8, 9 and 10 October, commenting that updates for beyond dates will be issued in due course. Ryanair says it has been forced to axe its schedule to the country up to 11 October "due to operational restrictions beyond Ryanair’s control". EasyJet has cancelled all services to the country before 13 October. Israeli carriers El Al and Arkia have said they intend to keep operating to and from the country as usual. Turkish Airlines is also continuing to operate to the country. Schedules data shows that of 6,876 flights to and from the country through October, El Al accounts for 21% of capacity, followed by Wizz Air, excluding Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, on 8.3% and Turkish Airlines on 6.2%. They are in turn followed by Israir (6.1%), Ryanair (5%), Pegasus (3.8%), EasyJet (3.4%), Blue Bird Airways (2.6%), Lufthansa (2.3%) and Aegean Airlines (1.9%).
